A checklist to explore if trauma symptoms are present for you

A collection of books I've found thought-provoking in exploring our relationship with ourselves and others. These are ones I have read myself whilst on my own journey and regularly recommend to my clients.
From self-worth and personal growth to slowing down, healing and understanding love, these are resources that invite curiosity, reflection and a different way of looking at life.
They aren't a substitute for therapy, and no one book will be right for everyone. Consider this a starting point for exploring ideas that may resonate with where you are in your own journey.
When we question defining our worth, making choices for ourself and stop measuring our life through other people's expectations:
The Courage to Be Disliked — Ichiro Kishimi & Fumitake Koga https://amzn.to/4h9SMpI
I love this book! Written in an interesting way as a conversation between a philosopher and a student they explore why we place so much emphasis on our worth defined by others and helpful prompts and reflections to shift this.
The Gap and The Gain: The High Achievers' Guide to Happiness, Confidence, and Success - Dan Sullivan https://amzn.to/4y1ZYeS
A great book for shifting our perspective on how and where we measure success - definitely on the recommended list!
Single On Purpose: Prioritizing Self-Love and Personal Growth in Your Journey Through Life, Dating, and Relationships - John Kim https://amzn.to/4hxKwQP
A personal favourite of mine that I rave on about! Creating a relationship with ourself is so important and coming from a place of people pleasing can be revolutionary!
Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change - Pema Chödrön https://amzn.to/4gY0rZq
I read this when going through a period of uncertainty and its thought provoking content helped me to explore my relationship with uncertainty - something I know many of my clients also experience.
The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down: Bring calm to your life with the ultimate mindfulness guide from a Buddhist monk - Haemin Sunim https://amzn.to/4AdTzi2
In a world that moves so fast, calming our minds and controlling what we can is so important. A great read with exercises to promote mindful practice.
Healing Is the New High: A Guide to Overcoming Emotional Turmoil and Finding Freedom - Vex King https://amzn.to/4yGxaIJ
One of my favourite authors! In this book Vex talks through his healing journey as a therapist and human. It helps to explore the roots, belief systems that hold us back and provides exercises to work through your own. A high recommendation from me!
Things No One Taught Us About Love - Vex King https://amzn.to/3ULR7iP
Another one from Vex that explores the concept of love, the illusions and misbeliefs about what it is, encouraging the reader to redefine outdated and unhelpful concepts of love.
Secure - Amir Levine https://amzn.to/3ULR7iP
I loved this book that explores attachment patterns and how to move towards a more secure attachment style - definitely a topic that emerges within the therapeutic space.

"Working with Amy is one of the best things I've done. I've tried cbt before but with Amy it was different. She is warm, patient, understanding and listens without judgment. It's through her I was able to identify I have OCD tendencies and work through a load of emotions around my belief system & self worth. For someone who doesn't open up easily at all, this was a revelation! Throughout our sessions Amy would say so much that resonates & I've taken so many 'soundbites' of phrases or sayings she made which I've been able to implement into my daily life, along with coping mechanisms when faced with distress. I can't thank her enough for helping me get to where I am on my journey today & would highly recomend working with her, you won't regret it"
"I have been on a journey with Amy's help between April and November 2025 at a difficult time in my working life. (I've) Never had therapy before and was a bit lost after having a couple of unsuccessful calls with work related support services. Amy is very welcoming, calming and understanding and has really helped me to understand myself, how to structure my thinking and how to hopefully avoid challenging thoughts and worries. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Cornerstone Therapy to anyone who needs a helping hand.
"I started CBT sessions with Amy late 2024 as I was suffering from stress and anxiety related issues (both personally and work related). Amy was amazing. She was patient, thoughtful, considerate and very knowledgeable and understanding. We worked on CBT techniques together and these really helped. Now a year later I am in such a better place mentally and this is all through the regained confidence in myself but also having utilised the CBT techniques when times have been tough. I would highly recommend Amy."
"Amy provides such a safe and welcoming space during our sessions. Whilst working with Amy she has helped me explore many themes and topics in a sensitive way allowing me to work things out at my pace, whilst having light bulb moments along the way! Having regular sessions with Amy has been so beneficial."
"Amy is an excellent therapist.
I have been in therapy before, mostly issues of burnout and overworking, but I have never wanted to continue beyond the immediate issues at hand. With Amy I have actively wanted to explore many feelings/ideas/concepts/themes that have come up from our discussions, and it has very much helped me to become a healthier, happier person. Many of these issues have been hard to address or I have actively supressed talking about them, but Amy provides a safe and nurturing space , where we have slowly but steadily dived into many issues i was reluctant to speak about at first.
This is what makes Amy such a great therapist, she lets you proceed at your own time, often making your own conclusions before entering into discussion.
I would definitely recommend Amy if your looking for a safe environment to explore any issues you may be facing."
